Lin’s Lucky Red Envelope

A storybook collaboration with Holt Renfrew

For Lunar New Year 2022, Holt Renfrew created a storybook titled Lin’s Lucky Red Envelope written by Sennah Yee and illustrated by Elaine Chen. The book was sold in Holt Renfrew stores across Canada, with all proceeds donated to our work.

Lin’s Lucky Red Envelope is a story about a young girl’s first time celebrating Lunar New Year in Canada. The book is about family, community, generosity and the unique experiences of people in the Asian diaspora.

project 1907 worked with Holt Renfrew to curate a resource list included in the book, which celebrates authors and children’s stories from all over the Asian diaspora. We also worked with community partners and organizations to distribute thousands of copies of the book to schools, libraries, educators and young learners across Canada.

  • I would like to thank you so very much for the gifted copies of Lin's Lucky Red Envelope! The students in my Grade 4/5 Chinese/English bi-lingual class were thrilled to read it in both languages and then to share it with the younger grades as reading buddies. What a fun surprise!! We love the story!

    -Edmonton Public Schools

  • The books have arrived, and our students have been able to take them home and enjoy with their families. Many of our families do not have easy access to books, so we are very grateful. Two siblings stopped me in the hallway on Friday and thanked me for the books. They told me their big brother was able to read to them and they had big smiles on their faces.

    -Prince Rupert School District

  • Thank you so much! We have received the books and I am sending them to a network of principals around me. My primary teachers are also excited and will read it with their classes. They're thrilled!
